The access to the island is possible either by plane from the Eleftherios Venizelos airport and flight duration about 50 minutes or by boat. From the ports of Piraeus and Rafina, there are itineraries by boat or high speed with a duration of 9 and 5 hours respectively. In Fira there is a cable available (Tel: 22860 - 22977, 23045) for the descent to the bay Mesa Gialos where a boat departs to make the round of the caldera, passing from the volcano and Thirasia. For underwater tours to the bottom of the caldera, it is disposed a tourist submarine trip with duration 1 hour.

Finally, a traditional way of travelling in the center of Fira is with donkeys and cost about 3 euro.
